Lathom Parish Council - Welcome to Historic Lathom

Irene became Parish Clerk in 1993. In 1975 she moved to Bickerstaffe West Lancs from Liverpool with her Husband John and eldest son Carl. Sons John, Roger and daughter Joanne soon followed.

Irene sadly lost her husband in 1984.

The year 2000 saw Irene move to Skelmersdale where she still resides.

Irene’s interests include reading, egg decorating, socialising with friends and family which includes 5 grandchildren! As former Chairman’s Lady of West Lancs she is still on the Mayor’s charity committee organising events.

Irene’s council duties keep her very busy, she says of the Council, "As clerk and RFO (responsible financial officer) of the council my duties are to ensure the smooth running of the parish council by liaison with both Borough and County councils and other parish councils. I attend monthly Parish Council meetings and keep all records of minutes. I also ensure all accounts are paid and submit them for annual audit. I also have a responsibility with regard to any legal issues which may arise regarding the Government code of conduct and the Standards Committee."

“I find the work of a parish clerk interesting and fulfilling and as such have now taken on the additional role of Honorary Secretary to the West Lancashire Branch of the National Association of Parish & Town Councils (NALC).”
